Farzana's Memories of Her
Beautiful Country
I am from Kabul, Afghanistan. We have four seasons; spring, summer, fall and winter. We have two different languages which are Farsi and Pashto. I speak both languages. Afghanistan is in the Middle East, it is surrounded by India, Pakistan, Russia and China. Our religion is Muslim.
We have lots of mountains and nice rivers. The sky is always blue. Our New Year is different than in the USA. We celebrate our New Year on March 21st. On that special day we all wear new clothes and every family cooks spinach and rice. The culture is very rich.
We have to fast for one month every year, the fasting goes from sunrise to sunset for one month. We can't eat or drink anything during the day.
Right now our country is not in good shape because of the civil war, and two groups fighting over the government. We all pray that someday we will have peace in Afghanistan so we could all return home.

Kâbul, Afghanistan's capital and largest city,
sits at an elevation of about 1800 m (about 5900 ft) in the Safed Koh mountain
range. The city occupies the main approach to the Khyber Pass, which links
Afghanistan with Pakistan.

Afghanistan has special food. We eat bread called Naan. We can eat Naan with every thing like meat and soup. It usually baked in a tandur.
KEBABS Kebabs [kay BABS] are another favorite
food of the Afghans. These are usually small cubes of meat skewered with
onions, tomatoes, and pieces of fat. Then grilled over and open charcoal
broiler.
As with pilaces there are many different varieties
of kebabs. One of the most popular types is kofta [Kohf-tah] kebab that
is made with minced meat, ground with onions [SHAMMEE], beaten eggs and
then mashed.
RICE Rice is a kind of food. Rice grows in the
wetter areas of Afghanistan including Kunduz, Jalalabatd, and Laghm.
Foods with rice are as common as those with Naan Rice maybe served plooi
with side dishes but on special occasions pihucpantao is Rice cooked with
meat.
OKRA Afghanistan people eat okra bamieh.
We grow okra in summer. Okra is a kind of vegetable. We cook okra
with tomatoes and onions and oil. Afghanistan has famous okra. My favorite
